Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
If you are refering to other people in outer space: Remember Krypton (Supermanâs planet), Ork (Morkâs planet), Melmac (ALFâs planet), and Mobius (Sonic the Hedgehogâs planet)?
Scorpioâs comment is an often-repeated, somewhat tongue in cheek explanation as to why we see so little evidence of extraterrestrial life (and probably an accurate one!). That said, there may be a simpler reason as to why, if they exist, they havenât contacted us.
We tend to forget just how incredibly huge the universe is. Our own galaxy alone is approximately 100,000 light years across. Consider the amount of time we have had the capability is transmitting radio messages (a little over a century). Assuming the very first radio messages were powerful enough to reach out into space (they werenât), that means the furthest our signals will have reached traveling at the speed of light would be just over 100 light years. Anything further away from us than that will not have heard a single peep out of us. Also consider that the galaxy contains something on the order of 250 BILLION stars. Another civilization would have to have an antenna pointed directly at us (statistically a virtual impossibility), be able to tease an intelligent signal out of all of the noise, have a technology compatible enough with our own to be able to detect and decode such a signal, and they would have to be within 100 light years of our location in order to hear anything at all. PLUS it would take another 100 years to send a reply.
If anyoneâs wondering, we are skipping nine days ahead with todayâs strip, which originally appeared on January 2, 1973. Thatâs because Christmas in 1972 fell on a Monday, and I suspect that theyâre saving that strip for Wednesday.
Yeah and besides Lucie, they took a look around the world and hauled ass! Before leaving, I heard one say to another do you believe what you see here. I was told that a little over 200,000 years ago their was nothing but monkeys living here! Things sure havenât changed much! Except most are wearing clothes. Good thing!
Sorry, Lucy, but you arenât even one sixty-fourth as important as you believe. If there are people in outer space,m their not contacting you proves how intelligent they are.

No Lucy, it just means the aliens are intelligent!
WLG12037 about 5 years ago
If the aliens ever abducted Lucy, it would be THE RANSOM OF RED CHIEF all over again. After about five minutes, theyâd pay us to take her back.
jagedlo about 5 years ago
You? For what reason? To learn how to boss other aliens around?

If there are beings with superior intelligence on other planets, you can be sure they wonât be trying to contact us.

Lucyâs view are simple. Sometimes we need to think that way.
