Ancient storyteller : Create an epic tale from a dozen stars.

Today’s storyteller : Better put a flashing red light on the secret tracking device and a big old clock on the time bomb.

I remember going to the planetarium as a kid and the astronomer commenting that the ancients might have been “smoking something interesting” for them to see such elaborate patterns in the mass of stars that could be seen (without today’s light pollution.) . :D

People have a hard time understanding that in the past people weren’t glued to their phones and actually were aware of the world around them.

there are a lot more stars in the sky than what we can see in these modern times, I’m sure the shapes of the constellations would make more sense if you go to a dark sky park and actually see what the ancients saw.

Television had so much potential. Unfortunately it was completely squandered on drivel. It has only served to dumb down the masses by limiting attention span, imagination and creative, individual thinking. The masses seem to believe that sitcoms and melodramas are a pattern for living. They are helplessly vulnerable to soundbites and oversimplification and easily manipulated. Any wonder how we got where we are today?

TV is the new “opiate of the masses”. Imagine— if we didn’t have TV what might we achieve in our personal lives. All those hours we could use learning to play musical instruments, teaching ourselves to actually enjoy housework (it’s possible if one doesn’t have brain-junk-candy diversions), or simply spending time talking with loved ones?

I remember we purchased our first television when I was 10 years old. I remember being relatively happy as a family before then, and we kids played outside and had great imaginations and read books all the time. After TV… we started eating dinner glued to the tube. That’s just very sad.

TV… computers… Internet. Potentially educational. Mostly a huge drain on our time, social skills and personal maturation.

Okies, dwagon soapbox done for the day. I need to level up on Candy Crush…
