When I was little, we had something called a “platform” that we put our trains on along with the plastic house, etc. Don’t know where my Dad got it—it was even bigger than a 4×8 sheet of plywood. We stored it in the porch shed of the apartment we were in.
As a fellow model railroad officiando (sic) not bad John. We’ve had them run through the house delivering presents (G scale). My late wife was very understanding.
My oldest DS’s wife’s father, was a real train fanatic. He had 9 kids, and at many Christmas’s, he would set up his child size, riding train set through several rooms in their house. One of her brother’s has the set now. Sounds like hours of Christmas fun, to me.
I once rented a house from a guy who was a real model train aficionado. His basement was taken over with tracks and train sets and he’d built shelving and tracks throughout the first floor of his house that one of his trains continually ran on. ( I did find the OFF switch for that one! )
My husband loves the Santa Fe Warbonnet paint job on model trains. We have a setup with an “O” (Lionel) scale, an “HO” scale and an “N” scale train running around the tree all at the same time, and all are silver with the Warbonnet. It’s really cool. Of course with a new kitten in the house, we didn’t set them up this year.
One year we bought a small train set for our children, and the night before we set it up for them around the tree, just so they’ll be surprised in the morning, and it worked and they were surprised. It was just like one might see in those Christmas films. The pictures bring back a lot of memories for them. After that we made it a tradition for a few years, until we got a dog. That year, when we started to set it up, the dog would chase the train, and it was just too much, so we didn’t do it again, until she got so old that she only looked at it. By then the kids were in high school, and they were “too cool” to get all excited about that toy train set….
I can remember when people actually used to put small lit candles on their Christmas trees. I seem to recall a big national news story back in the day of the obvious happening and burning down an entire house or apartment complex (can’t remember which). That’s when the custom stopped, I think….

I’d hate to see what happens when Farley decides to leave the couch or is startled by the noise of the train.;-D

I think Farley’s already letting you know that the train is a menace to feet.

John, John, John! I don’t even know where to begin. It’s not “in the way”, it’s occupying the room. You want to keep it in one pice, remove it.

If he would turn the train around it could access all track sections.

Back when I was a kid in the Fifties, seeing the train displays in Sears-Roebuck and Montgomery Ward was a big deal.

Yes, we did have a train set running around our Christmas tree. One thing you can say about high quality model railroads is…they work!

I think I would make the track smaller. When Michael comes in he won’t care if he steps on your train track or your train.
