As my maternal grandparents were the only grandparents I had growing up, I hardly had them visit as they lived in Arizona and me (still) in Washington. As for when I visited them, I don’t remember anymore how giddy I was visiting them. Now as for my stepmother’s mother who lives with my parents, I don’t get that giddy anyway.

She needs to get over this jealousy thing. Grandparents don’t have a whole lot of time on this earth and they can use every bit of love their way.

Be more like Grandma Andy, maybe that will solve whatever problem you have.

When I was a teenager, we had both of my grandmothers living with us. I shared a room with one of them. Oh, and they hated each other. Since my father worked, my mother worked part-time but also had all of the household stuff to do, my older siblings were all gone, and my little brother was really too young for them to do a lot of stuff with, it was my attention they’d fight over. I was a tug-of-war rope for them. My mother had often said that she regrets not having sent me to a counselor at the time, and she had it in writing that, should anything happen to my dad, she was NOT to live with me. “You did your time.” (Moot point now, as my mother has predeceased my dad.)

I didn’t get that excited but I was always glad to see my mother-in-law. She was that only person who really knew what I had to put up with in my wife. :) My mother on the other hand would get about that excited to see my wife. I think it was that my mother just appreciated her taking me off of my mother’s hands so she didn’t have to put up with me anymore.

That’s got to be hard, when you are not the affectionate type and everyone else in your family is. I can be sympathetic, but as the affectionate type I cannot relate.

I’m really disappointed in Andy. She is being very mean-hearted. I hope we see an attitude adjustment.

Grandparents have an edge because they can spoil the grandkids without mercy. Parents, however, are left to clean up the mess and suffer the stigma of being the disciplinarian. Andy has it worse as she has an extra kid named Roger who is no help at all.

Only Roger could actually look forward to visits from a mother-in-law…..
