I go by the idea that everyone is a terrible drive, myself included.

If someone is driving slower than you, they are an idiot. If they are driving faster, they are a maniac…RIP George Carlin.

    let’s start with the basics:

    stay in your own lane

when you see the red octagon, come to a full stop. check to see if it is safe to proceed. at a busy 4 way stop, your “turn” is NEVER immediately after the car in front of you.

Defensive driving is sort of like that. Be courteous, mind the rules of the road and assume everyone else does not. But be nice about it.

I used to be a driver examiner…..I’ll be the judge of who’s best. I have rode with the worst of the worst. Drivers who cross six lanes of traffic to make an exit just by turning the signal and turning right…..at 70 miles per hour at rush time. Drivers who gun the motor to war power and try to put it into drive. Male and females. Teens to seniors…..staying calm, cool, and totally professional…..even while they sob behind the wheel after creaming the back parallel parking pole thereby failing the test in less than one minute. Only to be out done by the little fella just off the boat from Vietnam who never drove in his life till about two days ago. He never understood that I needed to be IN the car for the test. I’d walk up to his car and off he’d go. Not once but six times!! Even with the interpreter running along beside him trying to stop him. Those were the days!!

Someone did a survey…around seventy percent of Americans think that they’re an above average driver.
