Kmart was awesome in the 60’s. Sucky now.

My mother wanted an electric can opener for Christmas. I went to K-Mart – AND ELECTRIC CAN OPENERS WERE THE BLUE LIGHT SPECIAL! But the ones in the special were cheap junk. I asked if I could get the same discount on one of the good ones (never hurts to ask), but was denied. I went instead to Sears and got the one she really wanted. It’s still in the house and still works.

Without “blue light specials” how would we warn our fellow drivers about traffic enforcement officers?

Black Friday was first used in connection with Thanksgiving in the 1950’s, but at the time had nothing to do with shopping. People would call off work that Friday so they can have a 4 day weekend. They truly were The Greatest Generation. Then about 10 years later, around 1962 or so, it was adopted by the advertising/retail industry. (Thanks Google).

I’m old enough to remember when Black Friday was just one day – and nobody was open on Thanksgiving. Those were the good old days.

You have to go to survival school before you go shopping on black Fridays.

The more things (supposedly) change, the more they stay the same.

I never understood the blue light specials. If I was in the store at the time, I’d see the light and hear the siren but was always in the wrong area. By the time I got there, the item was gone. Did people really hang around the store waiting for the special to be announced?
