Where I live, it is considered the polite custom for someone entering a room where there are others, to greet the room “¡Buenos días!” “¡Buenas tardes!” etc. and to have the greeting returned by the people in the room. Unfortunately, because everyone ( not just kids ) seems to be glued to their cell phones, this is slowly going the way of the dinosaur.
It is also the custom here when passing fellow diners in a restaurant to wish them “¡Buen provecho!” In French they’d say “Bon Appetite!” I don’t think there’s an English equivalent … perhaps “Enjoy your meal!”
