Mittens, she would not do that to you. Never fear, you will get your treats.

Hubby’s 3 barn-find kittens who have taken over the house have discovered the Charmin rolls. Joy. (our last 2 cats never bothered the stuff) The house has turned into Play Land and the bathroom door now stays closed at all times…..

When our calico kitten, Blossom, was a baby, she knocked one of the toy nutcrackers off the tree and broke it in half. We put it back together, but it became her toy. Every year we put it at the bottom of the tree, and she would be allowed to play with that one.

My Kaboodle is blessedly uninterested in the tree and decor. When I first bring the tree in, before I start to decorate, she gives it a good sniff, maybe mouths a branch for a few seconds just to see what it is. After that there is no mystery and it’s just another bit of furniture. She sits under it perfectly content to have another hiding place and does not try to play with or destroy it.

We’ve been doing that, tree decorations out of cat range, ever since our second Xmas with cats. The cats with us now are not bothered by and don’t bother with the tree. Except the foundling. He still tries to get up the tree and play with the ornaments. One or two shots with a squirt gun usually guarantees a quiet Xmas season.

The decorations I put at the very bottom are the jingly bell ones . . . and I fasten them on VERY tightly. This was for Pyewacket (RIP) who used to lie down there and bat them, ever so gently. More recent cats just don’t seem to care . . . except Gandalf, who is scared of jinglies. So I figure that keeps him away from the tree.
