    10 – two bits.

A dollar coin would be split into eighths (“pieces of eight”). Two of them were “two bits”, twenty-five cents.

Two bits? Wasn’t that Curtis James Jackson’s first rapper name? ( Didn’t test well with the suburban teen demographic. )

This sounds like Bugs Bunny’s villain origin story in “Rebel Rabbit.” (The one where, amongst other deviltry, he saws Florida off from the US.)

My grandfather used the expressions “2 bits,” “4 bits,” and “6 bits,” for 25 cents, 50 cents, and 75 cents, but the only one I ever hear anymore is “2 bits” for a quarter.
