We simply trained our cats, like any animal, to not climb the tree and to leave the ornaments alone. Cats are trainable. They’re smart and can learn. Say “no” while luring them away with a treat.
We use a wrought-iron tree, with the cat-proof ornaments on the bottom 2 rows. Other than a couple of "NO"s about wrestling with the garland, the girls have pretty much left it alone, except to time-share the tree skirt as a nap spot.

Yeah, but that kitty’s going to be in big trouble when Rose sees the tree

Peekaboo can substitute for that “mayhem like me” guy from the commercials…

We keep a spray bottle close by, all we have to do is pick it up and the cat runs away from the tree.

I chose no tree since we adopted the cat, she and her safety come first.

Guess I am lucky. My Cyrena turned 13 this year and she has never bothered the tree.
