To be fair the mainstream of the congressional Democratic Party and Dem officials. The polls show that the majority of ordinary Democrats are opposed to a war with Iran period, despite the efforts of the establishment media, chockablock with military and CIA “experts”, to convince them otherwise.
At this point, most of the Democrats appear to be primarily concerned with making sure some of that warmonger glory rubs off on them, too. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a left-wing party that actually represented people on the left?
“The Congress shall have Power To . . . provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States.”—U.S. Constitution, Article I, section 8, clause 1
“The Congress shall have Power . . . To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules conquering Captures on Land and Water;“To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;“To provide and maintain a Navy;“To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;“To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;“To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress”—U.S. Constitution, Article I, section 8, clauses 11–16
Not that difficult a concept. Who can declare war? The Congress and no other.
The party opposite the President pretty much always reacts with some kind of faux outrage when the President does a military attack on a country we haven’t officially declared war with. Nothing special going on here.
There are rules / laws.. or, one should say there were rules / laws.. that presidents and authority are / were expected to follow. With trump everything is out the window.. and the Republicans seem just fine with that. The crude “Up Yours” seems to be the new normal.
I wonder what the Constitution says? One assumes Founding Fathers that wrote the articles were very clear as to how the 1) US declares war, 2) defends itself, and 3) defines the roles and responsibilities of ‘separate but equal’ branches of government to maintain checks and balances. Hmmm indeed. I’m sure the answer is in there some where and that it’s not a partisan thing. (/s)

Well, somebody has to promote peace. Of course the others they’ll say they are doing it all wrong.
How can anyone promote peace wrong?

Right. We would not want a president who followed the law. Dictators are good says Ted Rall.
