Some may know Kliban died tragically in 1990 at the relatively young age of 55. I’ve been a fan since the 70’s, about the time his cartoons appeared in Playboy magazine every month. Always a cat. Get the book “Cat”, if you don’t already have it. This cartoon shows the timeless wisdom with which he peppered his cartoons…true then and surely now!
My favorite Kliban strip, and one I’ve never seen either on GoComics or in any of the books, shows someone with a smirk on his face standing in a western saloon. Everyone else in the place is wearing a ballet skirt, and the caption reads “we take our tutus seriously around here, stranger!”
I am fully prepared now to be told that it’s not one of Kliban’s.
Drawn over 30 years ago, and it’s EXACTLY the way things are. All you need to do is change the signs to read “Us” and “Them”, or “Right” and “Left”, or “Republicans” and “Democrats”, or “Trumplings” and “Patriots”…

Sorry, but I used this exact image – verbally – in a Lion’s Club speech contest in 1966…and I probably wasn’t the first to do so.
