As I recall it, about this time in the real world, there was a spate of people using “gay” as a synonym for pretty much any interchangeable insult. Unless it was earlier… I do recall that I was already woke enough to think it was stupider and wronger than most such things.
I always thought it was strange when we got into high school that while I considered homosexual behavior sinful, I would NEVER accuse someone of being gay or using a derogatory term, or anything like that, while guys who did all sorts of things that were also considered sinful were constantly throwing such terms at each other.
