I recently discovered an old character from SNL, Lyle, the Effeminate Heterosexual. I think he really exemplifies the smart version of the point being made here.
To Jeremy, “Gay” simple means “I don’t like”. Frankly, that was common with kids when I grew up. Many used it as a slur without knowing what it actually meant. They just heard others use it.
Well, no, Ozy; Jeremy doesn’t actually “know” the number 5 as we understand the word “know”. It’s just a sound he picked up and fed into his snark-mill.
I’d be thrilled to be compared to Mohammed Ali in any way. If someone told me my feet stank like Mohammed Ali“s, it would be the best compliment I received all year.

I wonder if Jeremy would have had the nerve to call Mohammed Ali gay to his face. Hmmm…now I’m wondering what species Ali would be. A lion perhaps?

As with foul language, the more such terms are used, the less significance they have.
