I wouldn’t mind only getting fie or six hours of sleep if I it was from 11 pm on; 9 pm bedtimes are annoying, but if I force my self to stay up to 11 I have even more trouble going to sleep.
Simple. One of them is bothering the other at 3am and tosses all night, keeping them both up. Solution – a seperate bedroom for later sleeping. The first one to wake up, goes to the second bedroom and they both have a goodnight. No fights, no argument. If they both have a good night, they wake up in the same bed. Bliss.
Sorry for this oldie: I am an old man, I wake at 3 AM to #1, I wake at 4 AM to #2, at 5 AM, I wake up get out of bed and change the sheets. Sadly I can not remember who told this joke, might have been Red Skelton, but it has always been my favorite for being old.
Remember how stupid water beds turned out to be, if two of you were trying to sleep on one? As soon as one person moved…at all…the other person was awake.
“Before time to get up” seems to imply they are both still working— not retired. But the strip seems not to have mentioned anything directly about their jobs, nor depicted either of them in an office, for a LONG time now. It was never a strip about work, of course— but there was an occasional depiction of one of them at work, or talking about work while at home. I’m a little puzzled.

They’re both ready for some other kind of activity at 3 AM. Being married for a few decades tends to synchronize your clocks.

This sounds familiar.

I guess we will have to wait until tomorrow to hear the theory.

In bed with somebody who is tossing and turning ends to do that. A dog with a cold nose has even more power!

As they never seem to do anything but sit around or take walks, why is there a needed “time to get up”?
dv1093 about 5 years ago
Nope – my wife says that once I’m asleep a sonic boom in our bedroom wouldn’t wake me.
cuzinron47 about 5 years ago
The theory is simple really, when sharing a bed, one person’s tossing and turning tends to wake the other person up.

Time to get up? Neither of them appear to work.

I just get up and read if I can’t sleep. No use fighting it. I’m retired so it isn’t a problem taking a 20 minute nap in the afternoon.
