Just another reminder of how much the N.F.L./owners are truly concerned for the health and safety of the players. Want the 17 game schedule, then lop 2 games off the exhibition schedule. That’s gravy for the owners as the players aren’t paid and season ticket people MUST buy the tickets. Oh, don’t try selling those tickets via the secondary market as you’ll lose your season ticket privileges. Secondly, no more play Sunday, then the following Thursday. I’m sure that the owners would cry poverty but too bad, so sad, hate it for them.
when it comes to injuries, what would you think about a maximum weight limit for players, say 250 tops over a period of time. Less mass would mean less damage, and the game could be more interesting as the players would be quicker and more agile.
The CFL went to 2 exhibition games and 18 regular season games a while back. It did hurt the game. Instead of having two games to evaluate talent and two games to polish the offence and defence, the coaching staffs have only two games to do both.
As an aside, I think the NFL is trying to make itself too available. It’s not a good look.
Professional NFL football doesn’t get professional until about game five of the regular season. So… Go to an eighteen game regular season schedule with no preseason games. Then fans are likely to get at least the same twelve professional quality games without the useless preseason.

I’d be happy going back to 14 games

If players only are required to play 16 out of 17, does being on IR count? Do they have to travel with the team? Does being suspended count?

Your empathy level is astounding.

16 is plenty. Owners already make enough money milking the NFL cash cow.

They need to draw the crowds somehow.

What a great idea! The owners could make more money with the stadiums we buy them.

Would it kill football in America to cut down on the number of pre-season games?

Alas, Manfred’s latest idea makes this actually look sane.

Adding two playoff teams makes some sense. Sunday -Thursday and 17 games doesn’t
