Darkeforce, to you make up your own “facts” or have somebody real imaginative do it for you? Anyone can thrive on a vegetarian diet. Try science and medical research.
@Darkeforce, that is true of northern climates due to animals (esp. fish) being the primary source of vitamin D (the only vegan sources being sunlight and mushrooms). However, where there is year ‘round sunlight, the only essential vitamin vegans need worry about is B12. The only vegan source is made by bacteria in your lower gut (past the stage where B12 is absorbed). There are healthy vegan cultures, but they get B12 by fertilizing with manure, and not washing thoroughly.
Modern vegans take pills for B12 and try not to think about where it comes from. Although, if you admit yeast into the “vegan” realm, it is not much of a problem. While yeasts are technically an “animal”, they are no more an animal than bacteria when considering the reasons people are vegan.
Protein and Omega-3 fats and stuff are not a problem for vegans given some knowledge. A diet of chicken nuggets and fries is not going to keep you healthy either.
Actually, yeasts are not really “animal”–they are fungi, the same kingdom as mushrooms. Neither animal nor plant. Nor are Bacteria, Protists (single-celled beasties), or Algae.
