Just a suspicion, but I reckon there was originally an erroneous apostrophe in the ‘its’ in the final panel, which was deleted. There’s a slight gap between the t and the s where I’m betting Parker put the offending article. Just a theory…
There is no “common cold”, common would seem to imply that there is a single, indiscriminate pathogen at large. In reality, more than 200 viruses provoke cold-like illness, each one deploying its own peculiar chemical and genetic strategy to evade the body’s defenses. Hence isolating is not the problem, finding a “common” cure is.
