Ah, yes! First we did the coonskin cap craze of the ’50s, now we have the hula hoop craze!

I just had to look it up and sure enough the Hula Hoop 1st came out in 1958! It became quite the craze as about 25 million were sold in the 1st 4 months ($1.98 each!) Apparently the most popular American toy ever made (as $1 in 1958 is equivalent to about $11 today, they weren’t extremely cheap or terribly expensive, no doubt plenty of middle class kids were getting hula hoops)
