    But the “real” Ellen does care. She visits Mum regularly to check on her. She has tried to convince her that she needs to stop living alone and move into a care facility, but Mum refuses. “Real” Ellen is in fact watching out for Mum’s best interests, but Mum just doesn’t realize that (which goes along with her mental deterioration, which she now seems to recognize).
