At least the students from the Keane End Deaf and Dumb School were able to see what was going on, even if they couldn’t hear it. That must have helped.
I enjoy the implication that Lottie spends so much time hassling the Cormorant staff that they know her by name.
In the last case, Lottie had a T-shirt featuring Gary the horse. It’s not just a colorful nickname; he’s actually a horse with an eyepatch. Or, as we won’t find out later because “The Big Hiatus” isn’t included in the GoComics run, a brag (with an eyepatch), which is a kind of mythological horse that tempts people into riding it and then bucks them into ponds or brambles. Shauna will run into Gary in the “The Big Hiatus”, and end up in a stream for her trouble. She apparently made good on her threat to put it in his Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brag_(folklore)
Elaine Winters, of the outrageous mini-skirt, is probably Shelley and Erin’s occasionally mentioned but never seen Aunt Elaine.
Read a book a while back about fashion that mentioned that once World War II cloth rationing ended, the fabric industry pushed for longer skirts and extra layers in women’s clothing so that they could make profits and recover faster.
I kept a microfilm reader from work a few decades ago to try and read a WWI diary. His handwriting was awful! Fortunately, the diary is now online and the scrap man has the machine. That said, there’s still a lot of stuff not on the internet.
At first I was surprised that Takleford is only 260-something years old. But probably in the past people were wiser and knew that it’s better not to build a city in a place that’s clearly a magical/weirdness hazard. It’s nice to see that the will to wear astonishing clothes has always been strong in the Winters family.

Brings back memories though I think I always ended up with microfiche instead of microfilm.

Hasn’t Gary the Horse made much more recent Tackleverse appearances than 1960? Or were those all flashbacks and time travel?

Worse than when Thomas the Tank Engine derailed into the elementary school. Harold was busy all day carrying the wounded to hospital.
