Dick Powell is always Richard Diamond to me. I’d go with Bogie. The radio Marlowes were good, not great.

I was waiting for Elliott Gould in “The Long Goodbye” (1973). Or was that after his time?

I love it how the only member of this family looking out for Grandpa is his granddaughter. The adult children have, apparently, abdicated all responsibility.

James Garner was excellent too….Bogie No. 1 though

Isn’t anyone going to mention Powers Boothe?

While Humphrey Bogart was and is the gold standard, I would like to put in a word for James Garner who played the role in the film adaptation of Little Sister. Also Powers Booth’s portray on television deserves consideration.

Sad memories. We let my father go to work for as long as we could. We couldn’t let him drive so my mother would take him to the train station and pick him up in the evening. After 30 years of the same routine the conductors all knew him as well as many of the passengers. The train station was across the street from his office.

Everyone loved him and helped him and watched over him to make sure he made it there and back. Different times than we see today. I’m talking about Chicago here.

There came a point when his dementia made it impossible to go in alone. Once he “retired” the progression accelerated.

Deep sigh. It is difficult to read these panels even when they are funny. It is funny, sort of.

Forget Bogie. I’d be looking for Bacall.

I assume his outfit made her think of Marlowe.

As someone else already mentioned above, Philip Marlowe was also on radio.

I wonder how long she can keep it up without anyone being the wiser? Then again this is a comic strip soooo… indefinitely. But IRL, it mostly likely would have been discovered by now.
