When I was a kid my Dad decided one morning that he wanted a family fun day, so he and Mom called into work and they called me in sick from school! We went out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and in between we went shopping, the movies, and generally breezed the day away! It was a secret day too so we felt devilish!
Poor Calvin, I still-get out voted on the days activity.
Not by Mom, but still by an authoritative figure that has the last say.
When Calvin and Suzie get married Calvin will not be so shocked when this happens.
well…if only everyone in the world could say and do what they feel like doing! I would have taken leave from office every other day…aaah…..life is cruel…
This one (and some of the comments) reminded me of an old Saturday Night Live sketch. John Belushi played the kid who didn’t feel like going to school; his dad (Bill Murray?) takes the ‘what if everyone didn’t go to school or work’ cliche one step further by calling out of work. It escalates to where the President of the US calls out, and the next thing you know we’re conquered by the Russians - all because Johnny wouldn’t go to school!
I have often speculated on why you don’t return to America. Did you abscond with the church funds? Did you run off with a senator’s wife? I like to think you killed a man. It’s the romantic in me.
Rick:
It was a combination of all three.
Renault:
And what in heaven’s name brought you to Casablanca?
I think school would rot your mind faster. I used to spend school days looking out the window, thinking one thing: if I’m gonna die, it’s because my teacher bored me to death. At least with tv, you’re actually interested unless there’s nothing good on. ( And I doubt anyone with 2000 channels ever knows what that’s like. ) If there’s nothing on, it kills you 3 times slower than school does, so kids( probably like Calvin) who drop out of high school probably did it to avoid dying. :)

If Mom can get Calvin out of the house long-term, she’d do it in a millisecond.

My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.

Waters? What waters? We’re in the desert.

Calvin - blame it on poor information from your lawyer, Hobbes. Your mother was neither misinformed or misguided with respect to you, however….

Alas, staying home and watching TV all day is too hard for little boys like Calvin.
It’s only Tigers like Hobbes who can stand up to the pressure of TV and Comic books all day.

You’re taking it rather well, Calvin. This looks like a variation of “The devil made me do it.” If I were you, I’d FIRE your source.

Dino-1, what a fun memory for you. I’m sure that while you “played hooky” that day, your parents instilled responsibility as well. :D
