I’ve heard tell, that we may have brought this on ourselves, by trying to clean and sanitize and keep everything germ free. And by all our staying inside and slathering ourselves with sunscreen when we do go out. That we need a certain amount of dirt and germs, to help our immune systems fight off the little things, so they know what to do with the big things. And, that lack of sunlight on our skin has started a chain-reaction, or cascade failure, because vitamins, minerals and trace elements need to be balanced too, so our bodies can work the way they’re supposed to work.
Oops. Was going to add, that it sounds reasonable, but was probably vastly over-simplified, so it’s likely much more complicated than any “A plus B equals C”. But, it could be a start???
Massive global disunity and fragmented efforts both economically and politically, combined with excess focus on the bottom line. Our system lacks resilience. This resulted in failure to mount an organized response both politically and economically. Different groups that are trying to address needs end up in competition rather than cooperation (see bidding wars for medical supplies between hospitals, states, and the federal government). We have supply chains that underproduce for the grocery store at the same time that massive amounts of food and goods are idling or even have to be destroyed elsewhere in the system. The medical supply chain was broken before all this started (see saline shortage for IVs).

That looks like Luke in the sink, but Luke doesn’t HOLD a light saber – it actually comes out of his arm.
Unless there is some new version, which would be a bastardized version, so, still it comes out his arm with the real version.

It is a shock when you’re thrown onto your own inner resources and discover that you have none.
