    Uh oh…looks like Allie’s got some other bad habits besides smoking. I wonder if their alcohol is somehow derived from beans as well.

    d42: Sure, as long as yeast can feed on bean starch. I bet they can, if it was just simplified a bit with an enzyme or two. Go ask Professor Mallard!

    One of the best features of this strip is the natural mannerisms of the characters, and background details. Few other cartoonists would have had a character holding a newspaper and gesturing with it because that’s what people do. These people are acting, and not just reciting lines like other strips’ characters.

    One other comic comes to mind where the background and “business” is just as an important a character as the protagonists: Watchmen. I think Endtown is on the same level of creativity and care, if not better.
