What makes her think it actually needs done? I’m of the opinion that we make far more work for ourselves than necessary.

No… she knows the dryer is done because she started it. We just hear a random bleeping noise which stops before we can find its source, so we just shrug and continue with what we were doing.
If saying “Honey, can you empty the dryer when it’s done” is not an option (oh no! -we have to “know”), our other halves should not be surprised we don’t come running when a ramdon household applyance bleeps.
