gay was used in some recordings - bright in others (I think gay was used first and then changed later)

I never heard the ‘bright’ version

In 1961, when West Side Story” debuted as a movie, the line from Natalie Wood’s musical number (dubbed in) was ..”I feel witty and pretty and GAY”

but I suppose it was changed to bright to avoid the expected snickerings, winkings and rib pokings

The Bieber story is during the week. Sundays are separate, and usually standalone. As for gay/bright, I consider the original to be the proper version, and bright a cop out.

Go, Heart! This is what I should do with drivers’ license photos.

(Btw, I’d only heard it as “gay” as well. Yay for original lyrics!)
