I’m new to this strip. Are falling cows a running gag here?

I thought they’d decided on no more falling-cow jokes. Or is this a rerun?

I’m always curious about the mechanics of how cartoon artists work, and if or how frequently they may reuse a particular day’s drawings. If you do a side-by-side comparison of today’s 4th panel figure of the cow and Verne to that on May 9, it quickly becomes apparent that Lewis used the same drawing for each, but with slight modifications. It only makes sense, really, when you consider all the time and effort that goes into the art — especially with a running gag like Over the Hedge’s notorious cow-drop.

Verne Abuse ! Cow Abuse ! The Horror ! … The Horror ! Cow needs one of those Parachute Things ;-)
