I would allow my Turbo all the time he needed to “read the mail” on the first half of our walkies, but sniffing every blade of grass for 5 minutes each? Dude…
I share this problem. I want to walk for exercise not stop every 5 feet to explore some random message or thing left by other dogs. Once motivated my Toby will walk at a good pace but still gets distracted occasionally. I’m thinking of adding training treats to my walks to see if I can keep him on track longer. Does this work for anyone else?

You don’t take a dog for a short walk.

My dog walks are more of the stop, sniff, squat, pee variety, and my alpha female ALWAYS has to pee on top of the beta’s pee.

I’ve always been intrigued that male dogs don’t empty their bladders on the first pee, but always have enough to pee over many other dogs’ spots.

That is so true. A 1/2 mile walk with my boy would turn into an hour if I let him sniff everything he wanted!
