Well, I for one will certainly not watch Hamilton unless there is an ursine character with two right arms!

Whenever I’ve had a debate online with some gun rights enthusiast, that “well-regulated militia” phrase is either ignored or dismissed. I wonder what proportion of US citizens, particularly the gun-loving ones, can recite the amendment in its entirety? How many Americans know that the US had no standing army when the amendment was originally drafted and would not have one until after Canada kicked the US’s ass in the War of 1812?

Here we are, twenty-six years after this toon was first published, and we still haven’t gotten with the program. What’s next, handheld nuclear weapons?

They say the police are too militarized. I’ve seen citizens with bigger tricked guns that what I carry on duty. We had to beg for a good weapon system…..Joe Citizen is packing thermal night optics with laser GPS lock and 100 round mags…we got an Aimpoint single dot and 30 round mags….to replace the 10 round mags they (citizens) wanted to restrict us to. I would like to not have a gun but not all citizens will go along peacefully when they transgress the law.

The real story of how Burr shot Hamilton. Also the beginning of a multimillion-dollar Disney franchise.

For about two hundred years the 2nd Amendment was correctly read to ensure arms, military weapons, could be borne by citizens enlisted in a well regulated militia, like the National Guard. Now, just because the Supreme Court has a right leaning majority, all of that precedent is ignored. Even Scalia, the darling of the right, said of their decision to change that precedent to an individual right, that there was nothing in the constitution prohibiting the regulation of guns. For which he is now vilified by some. So much myopic hypocrisy…

I have a brother-in-law who maintains that the amendment protects the right of everyone to own nuclear weapons…Sometimes, even taking a point to its thoroughly absurd conclusion doesn’t result in clear thinking…

This comic is from 1994. The gun lobby has been shouting the same illogical arguments for 26 years.
