Depends on the democracy, Cliff. Athens kept on re-electing the same guy round after round for decades. Sure, he made Athens an education to Greece, but you have to wonder how much Pericles’ PR agent played down the price the Athenians had to pay for that.
I believe African “Democracies” change leaders faster than us. Look what happened when a European lady said, “Let them eat donuts”.Gonna be alot of dough spread around.
By the way, I just read yesterday’s comments….you guys rocked! I comment you! (Hey, I was going to correct that typo, but I kind of like it the more I look at it!) And I couldn’t help but notice that Ray C beat me to the cruller joke……oh, well…..nice job yesterday everybody…’sniff” I’m so proud….
runar, you’re right of course, and I thought of saying so, but in loose terms it works. Both republics and true democracies vote their people into office and both have the fundamental problems that arise from doing so.

Cliff nailed it.

I saw a great bumper sticker the other day – “Be nice to America or we’ll bring democracy to YOUR country.”

Every leader is called a crumb.

The kind of democracy they had in Athens was vastly different from anything around today. Ever “democracy” I can think of is actually a republic.
The problem with “voting the bastards out” is that sometimes what you get is even worse. That’s what happened in Wisconsin.

Just hope they don’t go for a police state. Donuts don’t fair well with cops.

Well, there does seem to be only one left.

At least in a donut democracy, the votes are cheaper by the dozen.

Do we get to eat the deposed dictators?

Cliff’s right. Our leaders are sworn in in a few seconds on January 20, and then sworn at continuously for the next four years.

Bilan, that’s funny…but could you be any cruller?
Sandfan, just like in Chicago…Vote early and vote often!
