The question is, how can you know that youâre happy if you arenât sad sometimes? Lucy should change the sign from âThe Doctor is in,â to âThe Philosopher is in.â The trouble is that Philosophers donât earn many nickels (just ask anyone with a degree in Philosophy).
Yes, Woody157, in one of the last skits, I think. For some reason I was thinking of the calling for the pi$$ boy this morning. I guess I really had to go to the bathroom but there wasnât one close by.
Many people are only happy when they are unhappy. Most of them comment on âCalvin and Hobbesâ. They are only happy when they are unhappy about other commenters they think are unhappy because of their comments. Actually, THOSE commenters arenât unhappy, they are only unhappy about the happy folksâ happy-happy comments at times.
I think that Charles (via Lucy) was trying to say that you cannot truly be happy without experiencing the entire range of human emotion. For instance, Linus may be living superficially, not examining his entire experience, existing in a state of denial. Which we know to be true, as he has to put up with Lucy, therefore, should not be happy 24x7 âŚrofl.

Happiness is being sad???!!!

Maybe sheâs trying to say, you donât know happiness until youâve experienced sadness.
Or maybe mac47âs suggestion (somewhat Orwellian?) i.e. âfreedom is slavery,â âhappiness is sadness.â Hmm.
Of course Lucy probably has another concept only a child can conjure.
Just rambling here âŚ..

In logic, they call this equivocation.
In the intelligence services, they call this brainwashing.
