Our cable company recently changed the dates for everyone’s bill to a week prior to when I was accustomed to paying it, the first of every month. I called and they said they were changing it “FOR MY CONVENIENCE”. I told the lady that if it was for my convenience I wouldn’t be calling, change the due date back so I am not late every month. We reached a compromise…I pay a week late, and they extend their grace period.
I highly recommend bittorrent along with a VPN client and liberal use of the proxy bay to download and watch TV at your leisure. Build a PVR from an old PC and some Linux and attach to an HDTV antenna to get your local channels (those antennas are very cheap and work quite well.)

We have a local, friendly, cost-effective, easy-to contact… and seldom need to internet provider. Alas, you very likely cannot use them because local.
