I hate misspellings. My brain doesnât think theyâre misspellings, and tries to figure out what the words mean. For instance, âitâsâ means âit isâ, so whenever someone mistakenly uses a contraction when they donât mean to, Iâll read it as written and be confused. âThe dog buried itâs boneâ to my mind becomes âthe dog buried it is boneâ, and Iâll stumble over it as I try to parse the actual meaning of the sentence rather than realise what the writer intended.
Yesterdayâs The Other Coast comic had a line that read, âHis ship, the Arr Billy, was was caught in a terrible storm and Teddy was washed overboard.â That one tripped me up. Other people get earworms from music â I get phrases like âwas wasâ repeating in my head for hours.
I have a simple mind with complicated problems. ;p
A typo isnât quite the same as a spelling mistake. I frequently trip over the typing of words that I know perfectly well how to spell. I sometimes wonder what difference a Dvorak keyboard would make.
It is funny how certain words seem to cause us to slip up. For some reason, the word ârememberâ almost always gets me, I canât stop with the "m"s and "e"s⊠âș
P. S. âI look forward to reading it!â is a good, funny lineâŠ
