You have no idea what you’re talking about. 10 years forward, you will look back to today while holding your wife and say “What the heck was I talking about?” or “Oh boy, I thought Martha and I communicated back then.”
My boyfriend had all kinds of excuses for not writing to me that summer. He even said he’d write something appropriate and give me a letter then and there. But he never wrote me a letter. Suddenly, the crush was gone and when I looked at him, I couldn’t see what it was that had made me so crazy about him in the first place.
I’m actually glad Martha apologized. While her reasoning can be understandable, she should have given some indication that she missed him or she might be thinking about him, even if sounded as silly as note she would have passed him class.
I think I would have found it reasonable for Mike to apologize to Martha only if she apologized to. Like:
Mike: Sorry I tried you the way I did, I didn’t know you felt that way about your writing.Martha: I am sorry too, I should have considered how it would have felt not getting any mail from and at least tried to write you something.
But then again I am trying to put ‘adult’ logic into a teen romance.
When I read this strip the first time around, Martha did something I didn’t like, (can’t remember what it was) but I did not like her because of it. So, this time around I took an instant dislike to her. Maybe it was my adult logic back then.
they still need to talk it out. he is always going to have in the back of his mind her not taking the time to write him even if it just a short note saying how much she missed him, that she hoped he was having a great time and she can’t wait for him to come home….that’s all she needed to say!

Decades later after the first printing of this comic strip series. Much of it is a blur, but I definitely remember this specific strip.
I think it was the look on their faces in frame #3 that hit home with me. Kudos on that one, Lynn.Tantor over 4 years ago

Talking things out is even better when minimal talking is involved!

If I let my 15 year old boyfriend hug me in public in front of our house, I wouldn’t have lived to see 16.

Maybe Mike can sneek around and get a job where his aunt works and pick up a girl friend there. Wonder if Elly would feel better then? :-)
