Sanrioâs spokesperson explained, âHello Kitty was done in the motif of a cat. Itâs going too far to say that Hello Kitty is not a cat. Hello Kitty is a personification of a cat.â The specific word that the Sanrio spokesperson used to describe Hello Kitty was âgijinkaâ (æŹäșșć), which means âanthropomorphizationâ or âpersonification.â
She would probably say âHello, kittyâ or âHello, [kittyâs name here]â. Itâs what would others say when they greet her, like âHello, Hello Kittyâ⊠âș
Iâm late to the discussion, but let me point out that the character we all call Hello Kitty is a British girl named Kitty White. Sheâs the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. White. And she has a car named Charmmy Kitty who, admittedly, looks just like her.
As others have pointed out, the difference between Kitty and Charmmy seems to be the same as the difference between Goofy and Pluto. They might have a physical resemblance, but one is a person and the other is not. One wears clothes and the other does not.

But she has cat ears and whiskers.
More importantly, why does a Jr know so much about âHello Kitty?â

I recommend checking out âThe Toys That Raised Usâ on Netflix. The history of Hello Kitty is fascinating.
