I love the art in this series that manages to be both realistic and painterly.
But I have to admit that I really love the edgy, distorted, tilted-toward-abstraction elements that often appear, as in today’s last panel and in the recent portrayal of the bird slipping into an alcohol-mediated altered state.
They often put an exclamation point to these little episodes. Partly punchline but also more. They say to us, LOOK. LOOK HERE. And, importantly, LOOK AROUND YOU! LOOK AT YOURSELF!
