Seems like the Pittsburgh cemeteries would be getting pretty full by now.
Where do we go when we die? None of us can answer this question by using scientific methods. While we are in this life, the answer that we seek lies only in the realm of religion, philosophy, belief, faith, hope, etc., and each of us may find a different answer. But life is very short, and soon each of us will have an objective answer to this question, when the time comes for our own lives to end.In the meantime, there is another very important question that we can answer somewhat more objectively: âHow meaningful are the lives that we are living today?â If we find that we are wasting our lives pursuing meaningless activities and accumulating possessions, or if our lives are focused only on ourselves at the expense of others, why should we long for a continuation of this life after we die? How enjoyable could it be, sharing our existence with others in the next life, if we have never even learned the meaning of sharing, or true joy, in this life?Living meaningful lives includes sharing love, developing trusting relationships with others, and having compassion for others, especially for those who are less fortunate. It is never too late for us to begin to improve, and if we are given enough time, great improvement can be possible. The city of Pittsburgh is now a beautiful city, compared to 25 years ago when Bill Watterson wrote todayâs comic strip. None of us knows how many more days we will live. Therefore, as Hobbes says in another comic strip, âLetâs make the most of the time we have left.â
@Dogsniff, have you seen the Superbowl ad where they did a take off of that famous ad with a kid and Dr. House (Hugh Laurie)? If not, itâs hilarious.
@ HobbesâŠ..you wrote a beautiful plan for us to live by. However, because more people throughout history have been tortured, maimed, drowned, burned at the stake and otherwise killed in the name of religion, maybe we should leave religion out of the plan.
This is directed to âDogsniffâ in regards to your comment about Mean Joe GreenâŠWasnât it the kid that offered him the âCokeâ and afterwards Joe tossed the kid a towel?I could be wrong and if so I have no problem with being corrected. All in all Four in a row and one for the thumb are words weâll never forget. Sadly the plan didnât come together in the end.
If there IS an afterlife, then how come we donât know anything about it? And I donât mean what our minister or the pope says, since they only heard it from others, too.If there is an afterlife, can we remember in it what this life was like? Are we aware of who we were? If there was a pre-life, we surely canât remember that.If there were previous lives and future lives, and we canât know anything about them, then are we the same person then?
Well, I believe that every soul when releases gets another body. May be of a human or of an animal or any other creature. It is also said that people who had a life of an animal in the last life donât remember anything in that life but many have faint memories of other lives if born as a human. Most of the karma we do in this life is reflected in our next life. Thatâs why life is not fair for some and some are born with a silver spoon. But every human being has to suffer most of his deeds in this life itselfâŠ. That is why it is being taught to us as a child that never to do bad things coz God is looking at us⊠and we have to reap what we sowâŠ
Pittsburgh was where my Great Uncle sent me overseas. Those Quaker teetotalers would send a 20 years old Marine who was about to die (line worked on a sweet young thing) without his last drink in the civilized world. That was the only reason I did not vote for tricky Dickâs re-election. I swear, the only reason. Watergate wouldnât have happened if they had only sold me a Schlitz.. Had to drink 3.2 on base. I have never returned to Pittsburgh, the closest place to hell.
If I remember correctly âSesame Streetâ also did a version of that famous Coke commercial. I think the little boy tossed the football player a #7 for his shirt, and he tossed him a towel.
I grew up in PittsburghâŠ.nuff said. Itâs always the running joke in our medium:The Fish that Ate Pittsburgh, someone is always coming or going to PittsburghâŠ.there was a drug deal in GoodFellas in, you guessed itâŠPittsburgh.
The kid offered Joe Green the CokeâŠ.eventhough itâs a Pepsi townâŠ
Wonder why Hobbes thought of Pittsburgh. Is that where he was made? (In which case he would be âreturning to his Makerâ when he died, or lost his stuffingâŠ)
Â
Of course, as we saw in Hobbes and Bacon, Hobbes will never die, or ever grow old!
I believe it was his jersey that Mean Joe tossed the kid. And if youâre bad, you go to Phoenix, in the summer, closest thing to hell. If you were good, . . . um . . Hawaii?
For me to go to Victoria BC if youâre bad. There is this really evil Tibetan Lama there who spends most of his time cleaning your karma, which translates to torturing the hell out of you. If youâre good you probably go to a different planet, because there wonât be much left of this one in a few generations. Woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, My Apologies.
Hahahahaaaa!!.. God, hobbes (the impostor), that was hilarious!! Thanks for lightening up my day with that profound opinionated humor. Another lesson from the saint. Hahahahahahaa!!
Rogue53:I wrote that piece Thursday morning, after receiving word that a close relative of mine had died at a relatively young age. He and I played together as young boys and were together countless times as we were growing up.Life is not about making petty attacks on other people in an attempt to devalue them. It is about valuing other people, and valuing the lives that we have all been given.Rogue53, what sorts of things do you do in order to help improve the lives of others, rather than tear them down? You donât need to answer that question, but I would encourage you to focus on those things. It is by enriching the lives of others, while we are still together in this life and there is still time, that we also enrich our own lives.âHobbes
Well, that tells us where all those Christian wack jobs who say the world is ending tomorrow will be going. One more reason to stay away from Pittsburgh!
I don;ât like the idea of an everlasting afterlife. While I would like nothing better than to be reunited with my late wife, the thought of eternity with my sister and her evil brood is apalling.
If there is justice and an afterlife, it will be that instead of people geting what they hope they want, they get wht they fear they deserve.
No Sir, In no way was I trying to be âPickyâ more to the pont I was asking if I was indeed correct. And as I now know I was mistaken. Thank You. All in all it was one of the great commericals which sadly we donât see much anymore!
Iâm am and have been for a very long time a Steelers fan, but better still Iâm not from PA.
W.C. Fields once ran a contest where the second prize was two weeks in Philadelphia; first prize was one weekâŠWhen Fields died, the folks in Philly were somewhat happy that at least he wouldnât be making any more Philadelphia jokes. Boy were they surprised when they found out that he had âAll considered, Iâd rather be here than Philadelphiaâ carved on his tombstoneâŠ
Thanks for telling me what I donât have to do hobbes (the impostor poster), however I will in any case.I donât see a lot of value in, as you called it, a âpieceâ which is self-serving, egotistical and sanctimonious. You love to bask in the praise of your âfollowersâ. I believe a great man once said that those who do such âare receiving their reward in fullâ for reveling in such.Find someplace to post your long-winded blogs other than a comic strip comment page. Iâm sure youâre lemmings will follow you over the edge. Not that I need to explain it to you, but since you asked; I support several families in less fortunate lands than ours. But, not for the sake of praise from others, but for the inner satisfaction that proves true the words, âThere is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving.â
Take your pity party, and martyr complex elsewhere, hobbes (the impostor). If you find something humorous to share, that might be refreshing, but it would be out of character. BTW, there is no unjust accusation, only an observation.
