I installed a filter on my incoming “city water” line and I change it every 4 to 6 months. By then the filter is coated, mostly in mud, but I do see a difference in my bathtub as opposed to my neighbour’s. In addition, I use a Brita water jug for my drinking water, further eliminating contamination. (Yes, a bit zealous I will admit, but my drinking water tastes great and the ice cubes are crystal clear.)

I installed a RO system. It goes to a sink tap and my ice maker. Most filters don’t catch dissolved contaminants and only catch the big chunks,

In San Francisco we got Hetch Hetchy water. The best. Up here it’s pretty good as well, but we have a filter installed.

You do drink tap water. It’s just put into bottles first.
