We used to stock the rubber finger tips for the clerks who handled a lot of papers when I worked in an office while in college… that and some others who liked the little cans of some sort of grippy substance.
But this one made me think of the old dictionary we used to have: Random House Unabridged Dictionary. It was a huge, several inch thick book, and had little “cut outs” in those pages that fit your fingertip so you could quickly go to “A, B, C, etc.” in it.
