Ralph could have turned off his cell phone if he were smart enough to do so.

Notifications / Off…..done.

That’s just one of the many reasons why I don’t have one of those !@#$ things.

I loved going out for drives by myself….many years ago now. No car anymore.

I agree. Turn the phone off and enjoy the peace. Also it is dangerous to look at texts and drive.

I used to love going on rides with my parents out in the open country…now most of it has become suburbs…

Look on the bright side, Ralph. At least the chirping is coming from the passenger seat and not under your hood. Ever pay to have your timing belt replaced?

My complaint is often people in the “group” don’t realize when they respond to sender they respond to everybody.

I hate when that happens.

Huh. you’d think this would be a thoroughly enjoyable time for all those wed to their cell phones. . .they text all the time anyway. . .now they can do it as a socially acceptable method of communication. . .

I own my phone and my laptop and have digital control over them both.

Is the iPhone the only one that has a setting which prevents the phone from “chirping” if a text arrives while driving?

You’re never free when your phone has GPS.

It’s worse for me. My iPhone plays music over my truck’s Bluetooth, and I play Pokemon Go with an autocatch device (Go-tcha). When I hit a Pokemon nest, the music volume goes down and all I hear is “Pingpingpingpingping”…

You’re a bad example for us impressionable readers, not texting while driving.
