Ernesto sure has quite the ego when befriending Petey, doesn’t he?

Once again, a little under 10 years ago, Richard posted a blog entry regarding this strip:

When originally published, there was a 7 day gap since yesterday’s (in the original run, that was followed by last Sunday’s); so, what the blog entry says about “missed days” or “catching up to do” may not make sense to those who have been following along.

Ernesto is either imaginary or megalomaniacal, or both. On the other hand, I would like to see the interaction between Andre KABOOM Chang and Ernesto Lacuna!

The 7-11 gives me a free Big Gulp after I buy 6… that’s loyalty!

Ernesto is probably the reason Petey’s scared to make friends

Ernesto reminds me of someone in Washington, DC.

Ernesto is interesting as is the choice of last name, Lacuna. Definitely some self-aggrandizement there, but I like the way his existence constantly hovers between imagination versus strange reality. Like so much else – is this real? Lol

Donuts? I’m with the kid in the last panel – do they have it in an XL?

So, the whole hook is that Petey just thinks Ernesto is imaginary?

Andre is a tremendous character. He is the ideal complement to Petey, the boy who sorely needed a friend.
