Is they why they are compelled to fill every bird house they can up to the brim with little twigs? Keeps their mind off of death? Well, okay, that explains a lot.
my husband and i were walking on a beach when we encountered a seagull was just sitting their relaxing , we thought, when all of a sudden it took 2 deep breaths and died. just like that, not a mark on it; what a sad event. i have found a couple hummingbirds and a warbler at different times along the trail i rollerblade, not a mark on them either. those i picked up with a kleenex and carried them back with me to my vehicle and took them home and then buried them in my garden.

Second time this month that death was uppermost in the bird’s mind. Do birds think about death in real life?
