Those lucky future boomers! I’ve never gotten free popcorn from a passing helicopter. Why, with all the money they saved, they probably were all able to put a down payment on a house
Twice this week we’ve had popcorn. It happens that I saw on Youtube a bio of Orville Redenbacher. It said while Orville was experimenting with corn, popcorn, which was very popular during the 30s and 40s because it was cheap during the Depression, and stood in for sweets during war rationing. The bio said popcorn sales slid in the 50s with the resurgence of unrationed and cheap sugar, and the decline of movies to TV. Maybe, but I remember popcorn always being in the house. It was also at this time Jiffy-pop came along. And apparently it was readily available in the Nancyverse!Orville revitalized popcorn, as well as improved it to such a degree that all popcorn has improved. Thus I don’t plunk down $8-9 for a jar of Orville, when a bag of the store brand kernels do quite well!

I see that today’s Classic is from 1955. Recent ones have been from 1950.

Notice that Irma is absent. Catching popcorn in her open mouth must be beneath her dignity. Or maybe she’s cautious of the genuine risk of choking.

Good thing there aren’t any seagulls around, or some of the white stuff falling would not be popcorn.

Nice fantasy, but probably the birds will steal it all before it reaches the kids.
