Sounds like participation in the school play is not voluntary. So much for Freedom

Sorry Miles, that was a different Thanksgiving, more than 10 years later. Seems they used to proclaim thanksgiving days quite often back at the days for differnt reasons, including the slaughter of wamen and children.

One reason the settlers survived that first winter was because they were able to move into an existing Indian village and salvage some perennial crops which had been planted previously by those Indian … who had all died over the previous 3 years from diseases brought to them by earlier Europeans! Per https://historicipswich.org/2017/09/01/the-great-dying/: "The arrival of 102 Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower at Plymouth in 1620 and the settlements by the Puritans in Boston, Salem and Ipswich a decade later were accompanied by the demise of the native population of North America. Or, as King James Iput it: “Within these late years, there hath, by God’s visitation, reigned a wonderful plague, the utter destruction, devastation, and depopulation of that whole territory, so as there is not left any that do claim or challenge any kind of interest therein. We, in our judgment, are persuaded and satisfied, that the appointed time is come in which Almighty God, in his great goodness and bounty towards us, and our people, hath thought fit and determined, that those large and goodly territories, deserted as it were by their natural inhabitants, should be possessed and enjoyed by such of our subjects.” Any thankfulness felt by the Indians that first Thanksgiving had to be accompanied by ton of “survivor’s guilt”.
