James Baldwin: āNot everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.ā
Pretty good Snl this week. Iām pretty annoyed that Carrey perpetuated the Redsā meme of mental decline, but the close was great. Carrey produced a remote control and paused Baldwin in midsentence. āSorry, but I think we all needed a break,ā Carrey said. āIsnāt that satisfying?ā Carreyās Biden introduced his own campaign slogan: āMake America Actively Not on Fire Again.ā
A militia-promoting father and son duo of fake news publishers and a Trump-connected social media consultant are linked to pages which promote the idea of an American civil war with material presented in a way that appears to be an effort to sidestep Facebookās fact-checking system.
Comments on their Facebook pages and other materials obtained by the Guardian show that some rank and file Donald Trump supporters are enthusiastically receiving the message that they should prepare for violence against their perceived political enemies in November.
The network is comprised of websites owned and operated by Dino Porrazzo Sr and Dino Porrazzo Jr, whose company, AFF Media, is headquartered in Pinon Hills in California.
The pair have been running rightwing websites since at latest 2013, according to DNS website records.
The Porrazzos now run a network of websites that enthusiastically promote Trump, and far right anti-government militias like the Three Percenters, and offer distorted versions of current events.
ā
The Vici Media Group, meanwhile, is run by Patrick Mauldin, who is a social media consultant for the Trump campaign and other Republican politicians, and his brother, Ryan.
The company was hired in 2016 by one-time Trump campaign manager and recently-resigned campaign consultant, Brad Parscale, to be part of the team that was widely credited with winning Trump the election.
In June, Patrick Mauldin was identified as the creator of a fake Joe Biden site that was compared in New York Times reporting to ādisinformation spread by Russian trollsā.
ā
Asked to comment on the siteās apparent reach, and the nature of its community, Lewis, the extremism researcher, said: āThis is not some dark corner of the internet, this is not a fringe thing, itās mainstream Republicans that are stoking this.ā
Trumpists love their Dear Leader in no small measure because of his talent for unapologetically engaging in abject cruelty.
Whether he was mocking a disabled reporterās affliction and delighting in Hillary Clintonās health travails on the 2016 campaign trail or separating migrant children with Down syndrome from their parents and ridiculing Joe Bidenās sonās struggle with drug addiction during his time in office ā Trump supporters canāt get enough of the Dear Leader triggering the libs, or really anyone with a conscience.
To his fervent supporters, Trumpās callous viciousness is funny.
Itās the humorless politically correct scolds and loser Never Trumper conservatives who need to lighten up, they say.
Now that President Trump and first lady Melania have tested positive for COVID-19, Trumpworld has discovered the value of empathy.
And they are shocked ā shocked! ā that some of Trumpās critics have delighted in the irony of Trumpās coronavirus denialism contributing to his own infection.
ā
It is completely appropriate and relevant to point out that Trump contracted a disease whose lethality he willfully lied to the American public about.
He also personally made mask-wearing the dumbest culture-war battle of our time.
And even after tepidly walking back his mask skepticism over the summer, he mocked Biden at this weekās debate for often he wears masks:
āI donāt wear face masks like him. Every time you see him heās got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away ā¦ and he shows up with the biggest mask Iāve ever seen.ā
At that same debate on Tuesday, Trumpās guests were offered surgical masks by Cleveland Clinic doctors. They refused.
He hosted a super-spreader event to honor a justice who would have the government control your body but refuse the duty to care for it. And when the virus he helped go around came around, he availed himself of the healthcare he would deny others, financed by the taxes he refuses to pay.
