I’ve been cutting my family’s hair for decades. It all started when I found a book called “How to Cut Yours and Anybody Else’s Hair.” Cost me a whole $5 and was fully illustrated. It was a great guide and must have been by a retired stylist or barber because it taught me how to do a nice job. We’ve rarely needed to visit a hair salon as a result.
I haven’t paid for a haircut since the early 80’s when Uncle Sam made me pay. As a kid Ma would cut it most of the time, (“Here, you need to go to the barber and get me a pattern.”). Then my brother in law would cut it until he taught my wife. I even cut it myself for awhile before I got married. Now that my wife cuts it , I will start the trimming job and then turn it over to her. For some reason she keeps giggling when she looks at what I have done.
I haven’t been to a barber (except when recalled to active duty and away from home) since they raised the price of haircuts in 1973. Bought a haircutting set and, after very little practice, wife has given me excellent haircuts ever since.
I cut my hair put it in a pony tail, flip over my head and – snip. If not even or too short it will grow out and I keep it up in a hair clip so no one will know as all that is seen is a clip with hair held in it.
Husband keeps his hair long for reenacting. When his hair gets too long he trims the sides in the front. Then I clip his hair (also in pony tail though he calls it a queue and it is not flipped over his head – just hanging down in the back) and use an electric razor to shave his neck.
Have done my hair since my dad passed away (he used to cut it for me) and his for decades

One advantage of being a retired widower during a pandemic: letting the old freak flag fly!

Better bring a magnifying glass too so you can find the hair.

I have the same “hair style” as Ben and my wife cuts mine all of the time…VERY short.
