It’s only been within the last 25 years or so that American capitalism has come to embrace shareholder profit as the only motivating value of commerce. Thankfully, some remain who yet recognize this for the diseased and twisted religion it is — something of a crime against humanity.
Most Americans do not own stocks or have access to a 401k and traditional pensions are gone. Some people have trouble meeting basic living expenses and do not maximize or invest even if the companies offer a 401k and a match.
Most industries that “doubling the price” trick doesn’t work. There is always someone looking to provide better value (tradeoff of price and quality) than you do.
I don’t know what is stranger – that Barn raised a child as kind & decent as Cynthia, or the Grandpa – also kind & decent – raised a child as vile as Barn.
