In my fantasy world, members of Congress, all of whom we the people elected, put aside their petty differences and work together for the common good of the country. Just think of what might get accomplished if that happened. Oh well, I can dream, can’t I?
It has not always been so. The worst thing about the modern world is the “24-hour news cycle”. Instead of “planning for the ages”, politicians are forced to release “sound bites” before negotiations are even underway.

That’s actually not true. The house has passed many bipartisan bills that the senate leader has refused to bring to the floor for a vote.
