This business of viewing inanimate objects as animate I lay squarely at the feet of Walt Disney. Geezus, I’m 74 , and I still rotate the dishes so each one “gets out” of the cupboard for a meal or so. I put the “good silver” in different compartments than the stainless steel. I don’t worry about the pots and pans, though. . .
Boy, galvanized steel trash cans, takes me back to my childhood. Now I have huge, wheeled plastic bins, and I’m fine with them. If only the pickup would put them back on the sidewalk, instead of the middle of the cul de sac.
When I was a little girl, my grandmother told me they moved into a new place, and a ghost took her hand while she was lying in bed with her arm over the side. She made my grandfather find a new house the next day! Now I’m 63, and I still never let my hand hang over the edge of the bed!

Isn’t it slightly early to throw it away? I leave it until it rots.

Maybe Linus could do a special. “And on All Soul’s Day, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the garbage can to visit all the bad little boys and girls.”

When I was a kid, our jack-o-lanterns were always smashed in the street the next morning.

Hey, Ralph… did you make sure Oscar wasn’t in that can, before dropping the remains in there?
